Most of the white fabric we have seen for sale is actually off white. This fabric IS white. Since it does not have pigment in the fabric is more visually transparent then darker colors. We made panels to hide speakers mounted in the wall. Speaker Works staff recommended that we use two layers of cloth one on each side of the frame for better hiding, which worked good. Using two layers of fabric layered together creates interesting visually patterns, but with the two fabric layers separated by the ¾” frame width it was not a problem. If you want to use one layer of the white fabric and don’t want to see through it paint everything behind the cloth white. Two layers of fabric does not seem to muffle the sound.
