We made this video to give people an idea of what is involved in replacing speaker surrounds. It is not meant to be a complete how-to video and there is no soundtrack. Complete instructions do come with our DIY Speaker Repair Kits.
Part 1 shows the removal of the old foam surround material from the speaker basket and the speaker cone. This woofer did not have a gasket on top of the outside edge of the surround. Many woofers do have a gasket on top of the surround and while this is not usually a necessary part, we do cover gaskets in the instructions that come with our repair kits.
Part 2 of the video demonstrates gluing the inside edge of the new speaker surround to the speaker cone and making sure that the surround is centered and in contact with the speaker cone edge all the way around.
Part 3 shows the gluing of the outside edge of the new speaker surround to the speaker basket and the centering of the speaker cone/surround assembly. An alternative method of centering the speaker, which involves removing the dust caps and using shims in the voice coil gap, is not shown in this video but is described in the instructions that come with our repair kits.
